Handling payment method revoked errors
Sections
Issue
If there is an issue with the customer's payment method, they must login and update their payment information to resolve the issue. Customers using methods like PayPal or ShopPay to pay for their subscriptions can also cancel payment through their account without logging into their portal.
Environment
This issue may appear on all platforms but is most common for merchants using PayPal Express and/or Braintree to process their orders.
Click Customers > Order errors to view charge errors in the merchant portal.
Resolution
Payment method revoked indicates that the customer has blocked the payment on their end. This could be through PayPal by cancelling the billing agreement or through their credit card company. The customer should log in and add a new payment method to resolve or cancel this subscription and checkout with a new one using a different payment method.
The customer can log in to their customer portal and use the Payment methods page to update their payment information on file as outlined in Instructions for your customers.
