Can customers use gift cards?

Shopify Gift Cards can be used as a payment method for checkout orders containing subscription products. Customers are still required to provide a regular payment method at checkout to ensure they are billed for their recurring orders.

There are limitations with Shopify Gift Cards and subscription orders, as follows:

• Gift cards can only be used for checkout orders, not recurring orders. When customers initially purchase a subscription using a gift card, the recurring charges are processed using the payment method on file. 
• The gift card amount is only reflected on the Shopify order details. It is not reflected on the order in Recharge.

Recharge does not offer gift cards but does have a feature for Credits. Credits allow you to manually or automatically issue credits if you have Rewards enabled. Once credits are issued to a customer's account, they can be applied to eligible upcoming recurring charges of any purchase type. 

Recharge also offers Gift subscriptions. Gift subscriptions allow customers to gift a specific product or store credit to their recipient.
