BigCommerce feature compatibility with the Recharge Checkout
Recharge is the leading subscription payments solution to help launch and scale your subscription business on BigCommerce.
This guide outlines which BigCommerce features are compatible with the Recharge Checkout. This article is actively updated when new features become compatible.

Compatible with Recharge
The following features are compatible with Recharge. In some cases, there may be additional setting requirements within the Recharge app that you have to enable to use the feature.

Storefront |
Recharge relies on the BigCommerce storefront to house the code required for subscription orders. |
Themes |
Many BigCommerce themes are compatible with Recharge out-of-the-box, including Cornerstone, LifeStyle Default, Roots Original and Vault. The list of compatible themes is actively updated. See Supported BigCommerce themes for more details. If you are using an incompatible theme, there may be additional custom HTML or CSS required. Custom code is not supported by Recharge per our design and integration policy. If you would like to implement custom code, you can work with a developer. |
Customer Groups |
BigCommerce Customer Groups are compatible with the Recharge Checkout when used to limit products certain customer groups can view or for organizing customer groups.
Note: Customer Group discounts and price lists are not compatible with the Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce. Customer Group product limitations (i.e. price lists) are not recognized when adding or swapping, products from the customer portal.

Limited compatibility with Recharge
The following BigCommerce features may work with Recharge, with some caveats and limitations.

Automatic promotions |
We can not guarantee that BigCommerce automatic promotions will work with the Recharge Checkout and it is not a supported feature. We recommended that you create an automatic promotion and run a test transaction through the Recharge Checkout, to see if it works as expected. |
BigCommerce customer accounts are compatible with Recharge, but Recharge does not send an Account Creation notification. Customers need to complete the customer account creation process on their own by clicking on Forgot Password in the storefront. Notifications |
When a customer purchases a subscription, order confirmation and subscription activation notifications are sent by Recharge. Shipping fulfillment notifications are sent by BigCommerce. See Customer accounts with the Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce to learn more. You can edit and manage your notifications within Recharge or use a third-party app like Klaviyo.
Note: Recharge will not send customer account invitations (see Customer accounts above).

Inventory | Inventory is set and managed in BigCommerce directly, though you will need to determine how Recharge will interact with the store inventory settings. Take a look at Handling product inventory for more information. |
Not compatible with Recharge
Due to limitations with recurring orders, some BigCommerce features will not work with Recharge. In many cases, workarounds and alternative methods are provided as possible solutions.

As Recharge processes subscription products through the Recharge Checkout, the BigCommerce abandoned cart feature is not compatible. You can use a third-party app like Klaviyo to track abandoned carts. |
Cart level discounts |
Not compatible at this time. |
Coupon promotions and coupon codes |
BigCommerce coupons are not compatible with Recharge. For mixed carts and subscription items, you will need to create discount codes in Recharge. |
Taxes |
Taxes must be set up in Recharge. Your tax settings in BigCommerce will not carry over to Recharge. |
Shipping |
Shipping must be set up in Recharge. Your shipping settings in BigCommerce will not carry over to Recharge. |
Refunds |
Refunds must be done in Recharge. Refunding a subscription order in BigCommerce does not refund them. Refund by item is not supported, you must Refund by amount.
Note: Refunds processed in Recharge will sync to BigCommerce.

Product modifiers |
Product modifiers are not currently compatible with the Recharge Checkout. |
Product rules |
Product rules are not currently compatible with the Recharge Checkout. |
Customer Group discounts |
Customer group discounts will not apply to subscription products and are not compatible with the Recharge Checkout. |
Customer Group price lists |
Customer group price lists will not apply to subscription products and are not compatible with the Recharge Checkout. Price lists will also not be recognized when adding products, swapping, etc. within the customer portal. |
Gift certificates | Recharge does not currently have an integration with BigCommerce gift certificates. You can create a discount code in Recharge. |
Store credit |
BigCommerce store credits will not work with subscription products and can not be used in the Recharge Checkout. You can create a discount code in Recharge. |
Shipping discounts |
BigCommerce’s free shipping discounts will not work in the Recharge Checkout. You can create free shipping discounts in Recharge. |
BigCommerce Mobile App |
Not compatible at this time. |
Manual orders | Not supported at this time. You can manually add a customer to Recharge through the merchant portal. |
