Issue

I need to hide a product from being purchased because: 

• I have seasonal products that you want to display for only part of the year. 
• A product is temporarily out of stock.
• I don't want to sell a product now, but might offer it again later.
• I don't want to sell a product using a particular sales channel. (Shopify only)
• I want to keep a product available for subscription members but discontinue it from the online store and new customers.

Refer to the discontinuing subscription products guide if you no longer want to use a product. Alternate methods of hiding products depend on your store’s ecommerce platform. Find the relevant platform below.

Shopify

Shopify allows you to hide products by removing them from sales channels. If you remove all sales channels, the product becomes unavailable. You can also Modify the product status to adjust the product availability.

• Active - The product is visible in any attached sales channels.
• Draft - Hides the product from your customers. This status is usually used when the product is being set up.
• Archived - Hides the product in the Shopify admin and from any customers. Archive is often used to hide the product display without permanently deleting it from the admin. Archived products can be unarchived to reinstate them.
• Unavailable - Active products without associated sales channels. Unavailable products are invisible to customers going through your checkout.

BigCommerce

Bigcommerce lets you control the visibility of a product in two ways:

1. Refer to Setting product purchasability - Editing a product's purchasability setting allows shoppers to sneak a peek at upcoming products, take pre-orders for products not yet available, and disable purchasing for out of stock products that don't track inventory in the control panel. 
2. Refer to Toggle product visibility - Storefront's product visibility is the state in which your products can be seen by customers. When a product is made not visible, it will not show up on any category pages, search results, or product panels (e.g., New or Featured). Customers will be unable to access its product detail page, as doing so will cause a 404 error unless the URL redirects to another page.
