Managing products or variants with multiple plans that have the same frequency settings
If you use Product Subscription Plans with Variant Level Plans, you can offer multiple subscription plans that use the same delivery frequency while providing different customer experiences.
This guide explains how Recharge and Shopify handle products or variants with multiple subscription plans that share the same frequency.

- Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration
Before you start
This article applies only to stores using Product Subscription Plans with Variant Level Plans.
-
For example, you might offer two monthly subscription plans for the same product:
- A standard monthly subscription
- A monthly subscription that always renews on the first day of the month
- Although both plans renew monthly, they are different subscription plans.
How it works
Subscription Plan settings are configured in Recharge and synchronized with Shopify so customers can choose their preferred subscription option on the product page.
Checkout orders
When a customer selects a subscription plan and completes checkout:
- Shopify records the customer's selected plan.
- Shopify sends the subscription plan information to Recharge.
- Recharge creates the subscription using the selected plan.
The subscription plan displayed on the Shopify checkout order accurately reflects the customer's original selection.
Recurring orders
After the initial checkout, Recharge manages all subscription settings and recurring orders.
If multiple subscription plans use the same frequency (for example, two different monthly plans), Shopify may display a different plan name on recurring orders than the one the customer originally selected.
This is expected behavior.
The plan shown on recurring Shopify orders doesn't affect:
- the customer's subscription settings
- the recurring billing schedule
- how Recharge processes future orders
Recharge continues processing the subscription according to the customer's selected Recharge subscription plan.
View subscription details
Both the initial checkout order and recurring Shopify orders include a View subscription link.
Select this link to open the subscription in Recharge, where you can review:
- The customer's selected subscription plan
- Subscription history
- Order history
- Current subscription settings
Recharge is the source of truth for subscription configuration after checkout.
Considerations
Consider the following:

Notes |
| Multiple plans with the same frequency | Shopify may display a different subscription plan on recurring orders when multiple plans share the same billing frequency. This doesn't affect how Recharge manages or processes the subscription. |
| Subscription management | After checkout, Recharge manages all subscription settings and recurring orders. The subscription details in Recharge always reflect the customer's current configuration. |
| Shopify order details | The subscription plan shown on the initial Shopify checkout order reflects the customer's original selection. |
