One-time products appear as recurring subscriptions in Shopify
Issue
A one-time purchase appears as a recurring subscription in Shopify or Recharge, even though the customer selected the one-time purchase option.
Environment
- Shopify Checkout Integration
- Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration
Resolution
This is expected behavior caused by a Shopify limitation.
Shopify treats all Recharge selling plans as subscription purchases, even when the customer selects a one-time purchase option. As a result, Shopify displays the order as a subscription in the order summary.
Although the order appears as a subscription in Shopify, the purchase is still processed according to the option the customer selected at checkout.
Some merchants manually identify one-time purchases in Shopify using tags, order notes, or custom workflows to simplify reporting and fulfillment.
Recharge is working with Shopify to improve how one-time purchases using Recharge selling plans are represented.
Additional information
This behavior affects only how the order is displayed in Shopify. It doesn't change how Recharge processes the customer's purchase.
