How to enable frictionless payment method updates

How it works

Frictionless payment method updates allow you to:

• Add payment methods for existing customers directly in the merchant portal
• Let existing customers add or update payment methods directly in the Recharge customer portal

Eligibility

You can enable frictionless payment method updates if you:

• Use the Shopify Checkout Integration or the Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration as your platform
• Use Shopify Payments in your Shopify admin payment settings as your primary payment provider

Enable frictionless payment method updates

Enable frictionless payment method updates in your merchant portal:

1. Select Storefront in your Recharge merchant portal and click Customer portal.
2. Ensure that you've enabled Edit shipping addresses under Customer portal functionality. 
3. Click activate frictionless payment method updates under Cancellation and retention.
4. Confirm that you use Shopify Payments as your payment processor.
5. Click Activate frictionless payment method updates.

Custom customer portals

If you use a custom customer portal, frictionless payment updates are supported through the Recharge SDK. Customers can update their payment methods directly within your custom portal without being redirected to the payment methods landing page.
