Converting a subscription from monthly to prepaid
To convert a subscription from monthly to prepaid, you will need to adjust the charge as well as the shipping frequency, and add the upcoming $0.00 orders. This guide takes you through converting a subscription from monthly to prepaid.
Before you start
This article is not to be used if someone needs to be added to Recharge partway through their prepaid cycle. If this is the case, you should contact the Recharge support team to make the necessary adjustments.
Step 1 - Confirm the price before converting
Confirm whether a price change is needed before converting the monthly to a prepaid subscription. The price of the product should reflect the total cost of all the shipments upfront instead of by a month, such as converting the monthly price over to a yearly prepaid.
Adjust the charge itself in order to ensure the new charge date has the correct price.
- Click Customers in the merchant portal and select Customers from the dropdown to open the Customer details page.
- Search for and select the customer.
- Click Actions on the product that requires a price change, then select Edit subscription product.
- Enter the new Recurring price and click Save.
If no change is needed or you have already made adjustments, proceed to step 2.
Step 2 - Update the order schedule
- Click Customers in the merchant portal and select Customers from the dropdown to open the Customer details page.
- Search for and select the customer.

Locate the subscription product, click Actions and select Edit frequency.
- Select This is a prepaid subscription and enter the shipping and charge intervals.
- Click Save.
Step 3 - Add the order shipments and adjust the charge date
- Under Upcoming orders, and locate the customer's prepaid order.
- Click the dropdown of the prepaid order to update and select View charge details.
- Click Add prepaid order.
If you cannot see the Add prepaid order button:- Instead, locate the charge under Recent orders in the Customer details page.
- Click Add shipment from the dropdown.
- Select a date for the new shipment and select Add order.
Note: The added prepaid orders will not be charged, and will be processed as $0.00.
- Adjust the charge date of the order if needed by clicking Actions on the upcoming order line and selecting Reschedule.
Or use the dropdown, then click Edit date.
