Adding a customer to Recharge who used the wrong checkout
In the event that a customer went through the Shopify checkout instead of the Recharge checkout and you cannot find the customer's account in Recharge, the customer account would have to be manually recreated on Recharge's side. Please note that since we can't extract payment information from Shopify for security reasons, you will need to have the customer re-enter their payment information so that all recurring orders can be charged.
- Recharge Checkout on Shopify
Before you start
This guide should not be used for prepaid orders. If you need to import prepaid orders contact the support team.
Step 1 - Create customer account
Click Customers and select Customers from the dropdown. Search and select the customer.
Add customer at the top of the page.
Step 2 - Enter the customer details
Enter customer details. You can leave the Stripe Customer Token/Braintree Customer Token blank.
Step 3 - Add a product
Select the customer's name to redirect to their new customer profile and select Add subscription.
Step 4 - Search and select the product
Search for the product in the add product menu, click Select to choose your product and then click Next. Configure the subscription properties and choose the charge date. Select Add Product to save the product to the customer's subscriptions.
Step 5 - Update customer billing information
The next step is updating the billing information for the customer. The customer must update their credit card in order for you to charge them again for their next payment cycle. Copy the customer portal magic link and send the customer an email asking them to use that link to update their credit card information.
Bulk import customers
Our team can assist with a bulk import if you need to import more than 50 customers to Recharge.
In order to bulk import your customers, submit a CSV file to our support team with the following information:
- Shopify order ID
- Customer's email address
- The subscription product the customer has subscribed to
You can find the order ID by copying the last digits of the Shopify order URL, or by exporting your orders as a CSV file in Shopify.
