Accessing the customer portal
Customers can edit their subscriptions, update billing info, or see their purchase history through the customer portal.
This guide provides an overview of how to access the customer portal.
Portal security
Customers need to either be logged in to their account on your Shopify or BigCommerce store, or have a temporary token in their customer portal link. The token is automatically appended to all magic links to the customer portal within your Recharge notifications. It is also appended automatically when you provide a magic link.
The token expires after 24 hours. If a customer tries to access the expired link, Recharge will validate the link to see if a customer is logged in to their account on your storefront. If a customer is not logged in, they'll be directed to your storefront's login page.
Access the customer portal through a magic link
You can access a link within the customer's account to provide customers with a tokenized link to their customer portal.
- Open the Customers dropdown menu in your merchant portal and select Customers.
- Search and select the customer's name.
- In the Customer overview, click the Customer portal links dropdown.
- Click the copy icon beside the section of the customer portal you wish to share with your customer.
Access the customer portal through Recharge email notifications
Within Recharge notifications, you can provide a tokenized link for customers to access their customer portal. Using the {{link}}
variable will populate the unique magic link for that customer.
For example, here is the default Upcoming Order notification:
To view other variables that can be used in your Recharge notifications, visit Variables for email notifications and scripts.
Include a magic link in Order upcoming emails sent through Klaviyo
Recharge sends a tokenized customer portal link commonly known as a magic link within the Order upcoming on ReCharge
event metric.
Refer to the Order upcoming on ReCharge section for more information about this metric

Shopify merchants
Customers can log in to their Shopify Account to access their customer portal. Once logged in, they have access to the Manage Subscriptions link, which directs them to their Recharge customer portal. See Understanding the Recharge Account Access link to learn more about this feature.
BigCommerce merchants
Customers can log in to their BigCommerce Account to access their customer portal. Once logged in, they have access to the Manage Subscriptions link, which directs them to their Recharge customer portal. See Log in to your customer account - BigCommerce for additional information for your customers, including instructions for creating an account.
Access the customer portal with passwordless login
With passwordless login, customers can access their customer portal without needing to sign into their Shopify account. To sign in, customers receive a secure 4-digit code via email and SMS. For more information, see Passwordless login for the customer portal.
Log out of the customer portal
Once signed in, customers can log out of the customer portal at any time by clicking on the Logout link.
The customer must click Logout from the Recharge customer portal instead of the Shopify account page to ensure their customer portal token link expires after access. If a customer clicks Logout from the Shopify account page instead of the Recharge customer portal, the customer may stay signed into the customer portal until the magic link token expires in 24 hours.
To ensure customers log out of both Shopify and Recharge at the same time, regardless of where the customer logs out from, you can enable the Force Shopify customer account logins setting or enable Multipass.
