Supported Shopify themes
You must use a supported Shopify theme to display the subscription widget on your storefront. You can update your Shopify theme anytime, but you must re-add the subscription widget to your storefront.
This guide lists supported Shopify themes that work with Recharge.
- This guide is applicable to merchants using Shopify. If you use BigCommerce, refer Supported BigCommerce themes.
Before you start
- You may need to reinstall Recharge's code if you download a new Shopify theme and use the Legacy Widget, or the Legacy Javascript Widget. See Change your Shopify theme for more information.
- Theme providers may release updates that are incompatible with Recharge. Recharge cannot account for these changes and it is recommended to work with your theme's developer or a Recharge Partner to adjust accordingly.
- Shopify 2.0 themes work with the Subscription Widget and the Legacy Widget.
Shopify Checkout Integration themes
The following themes are compatible with stores using the Shopify Checkout Integration. If you are using a Shopify 2.0 theme, see Supported Shopify 2.0 themes. If you are interested in a theme that is not listed, reach out to the theme provider to confirm if they support Shopify subscriptions.

Legacy third-party themes
Third-party themes are created and supported by third-party developers. Neither Shopify nor Recharge offers support for third-party themes. Older versions of these themes may require customization to integrate with Recharge. To reach the third-party developer for support, refer to Shopify's theme support guidelines.

Supported Shopify 2.0 themes
Most Shopify 2.0 themes are compatible with the Shopify Checkout Integration.
Change your Shopify theme
See Changing your Shopify theme to publish a new Shopify theme. Changing your theme overrides the Recharge code for Legacy and Legacy Javascript Widgets, which can cause the widget to work incorrectly, or disappear from your product pages. We recommend reaching out to the Recharge support team in advance to help with the Recharge code installation.
If you see the error code Could not find asset snippets/subscription-product.liquid, it is likely that your Shopify theme has been changed. Reach out to the Recharge support team to have your Recharge code reinstalled.
Duplicate your Shopify theme
Duplicate your current Shopify theme to test Recharge or make changes to an unpublished version of your theme.
