Managing Shopify shipping zones and rates in Recharge
With Recharge Shipping Zones, you can store shipping rates directly in Recharge or choose to get all of your shipping rates from Shopify.
This guide provides an overview of how to choose your shipping set up in Recharge and the benefits and use-cases for each option.
- BigCommerce Checkout Integration
- Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce
- Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration
Before you start
- Merchants that have converted or migrated to the Shopify Checkout Integration, can choose between the shipping rates listed below for their recurring orders. All new checkout orders reference your shipping settings in Shopify. Refer to Converting or migrating to the Shopify Checkout Integration for more information.
- You must have your shipping rates configured in Shopify before you can import them into Recharge.
- You can use the Include shipping rates from Shopify setting if you have shipping rates in a particular shipping zone that cannot be imported or added manually into Recharge. For example, rates that come from an unsupported third-party app, rates from a shipping profile that isn’t the general profile, or Shopify carrier-calculated rates.
Rate types
Shopify merchants using the Recharge Checkout can choose between Recharge zones, rates, and integrations (Advanced) or Get all rates from Shopify, depending on their business needs.
Recharge zones, rates and integrations (Advanced shipping rates)
With Recharge Shipping Zones and Rates, you have access to additional shipping settings in Recharge. Once enabled, you can manually add a shipping rate, or manage rates from a third-party application.
Get all rates from Shopify (Basic shipping rates)
If you select Get all rates from Shopify, you'll continue to use the rates you've configured in Shopify to charge shipping on subscription orders. Recharge sends a request to Shopify each time an order is created and Shopify provides the shipping rate to charge on each order.
This will allow you to charge any custom rates you have configured in Shopify, and is useful if you're using Shopify Shipping Profiles. You can also use this method if you are using an unsupported third-party shipping app for rates.
Enable Recharge zones, rates, and integrations (Advanced)
- Click Settings in your merchant portal and select Shipping.
- Click the radio button for Charge shipping.
- Select Use Recharge zones, rates, and integrations from the Shipping setup dropdown menu.
- Follow the Permissions update required prompt to update your store's permission so that Recharge can read your store's shipping settings. Once permissions have been updated, select Next.
Import your Shopify zones and rates
The first time you enable Advanced rates in Recharge, you are required to import your Shopify zones and rates.
- Review the Shopify shipping zones and rates that you will be importing into Recharge.
- Press Next to confirm the Shopify shipping zones and rates that you'll be importing.
- Confirm the import by typing IMPORT into the Confirmation required dialog box and select Import.
Recharge pulls the shipping rates from Shopify and saves them in the database to be used when creating orders.
Re-import Shopify zones and rates
New shipping zones and rates added in Shopify are not automatically reflected in Recharge. Instead, you must re-import any new zones added in Shopify to Recharge.
- Click Settings in your merchant portal and select Shipping.
- Select Manage zones from the Shipping zones section.
- Select Re-import zones & rates from the Actions section.
- Confirm the rates and zones being added to your store are correct.
- Select Next.
- Confirm the import by typing IMPORT into the Confirmation required dialog box and select Import.
Recharge pulls the rates from Shopify and saves them in our database to be used when creating orders. Re-importing shipping zones and rates from Shopify will remove any existing rates in Recharge, and recreate the shipping zones and rates with the most up-to-date information from Shopify.
Include rates from Shopify at the checkout
You can enable the feature to Include rates from Shopify option to display rates specifically from Shopify. With this feature enabled, Recharge can pull your rates directly from Shopify and display them as a shipping option for your customers. This is ideal if you use Shopify carrier-calculated rates, your own carrier-calculated rates, an unsupported third-party shipping app, or use multiple Shopify Shipping Profiles to manage your rates.
- Click Settings in your merchant portal and select Shipping.
- Select Manage zones from the Shipping zones section.
- Click the toggle to Include shipping rates from Shopify.
- Once enabled, any rates for that specific zone in Shopify will display at the Recharge checkout.
