Getting started with Post-Purchase Upsell Swap
Post-Purchase Upsell Swap lets you present customers with a limited-time offer after checkout that updates their subscription for future orders. Instead of changing the initial purchase, the feature swaps one subscription product for another, such as a larger pack size or a different delivery frequency, starting with the first recurring order, helping increase average order value (AOV) and long-term customer value (LTV) without disrupting the checkout experience.

Key features
Post-Purchase subscription upgrade
Show a targeted offer immediately after checkout so customers can upgrade their subscription without interrupting the checkout experience.
Subscription swap for future orders
Replace the original subscription product with a different product, quantity, or frequency starting from the first recurring order, while leaving the initial checkout order unchanged.
Flexible offer configuration
Define which products, cart conditions, or customer attributes trigger the offer and control which subscription the customer is swapped to.
Post-Purchase page customization
Customize the offer page with messaging, visuals, discounts, and timing elements to clearly communicate the value of accepting the offer.
How it works
A post-purchase upsell swap displays an offer after checkout and updates the customer’s subscription only if they accept it. The original checkout order stays unchanged. If the customer accepts the offer, Recharge updates the subscription in the background and applies the new configuration starting from the customer’s first recurring order.

How it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Upgrade subscription starting immediately after checkout | A customer purchases a subscription and is presented with a post-purchase offer to upgrade to a higher-quantity or lower-frequency subscription. If the customer accepts, the subscription is updated shortly after checkout, and any additional products required to match the upgraded quantity are added to the current order as one-time items. Merchants can optionally delay the next recurring charge to align with the customer's increased product quantity. | Increases average order value (AOV) by adding products to the current order while moving customers to a higher-value subscription plan or delivery cadence. |

If the customer accepts, the subscription is updated for future recurring orders, while the current order remains unchanged. No additional one-time products are added, as the upgraded quantity is fulfilled by the customer's next scheduled subscription order. | Encourages customers to upgrade their subscription without affecting the initial order, increasing long-term customer value (LTV) while keeping fulfillment and billing workflows simple. |
