Understanding the Update a subscription node for Automate flows
The Update a subscription node allows you to directly modify an existing subscription within an Automate flow. This standalone node simplifies subscription updates by letting you select and update a specific subscription in one step.
This guide explains how to use the Update a subscription node, how to configure it, and key use cases for it in Automate flows.

Before you start
- This article only applies to Automate flows.
- The Update a subscription node works independently and does not require a Smart loop, though both can coexist in the same flow.
- The Update a subscription node is only a single subscription update.
Use the correct node based on your use case:
- Update a subscription node: Use for targeted, single-subscription updates.
- "Subscription" node within the Smart loop: Use to update in bulk or for multiple subscriptions, dynamically based on what is in the order or on a condition that isn't related to a variant or collect, such as frequency.
How it works
With the Update a subscription node, you select a subscription using targeting criteria such as a variant.
When the flow runs, the node identifies the specific subscription and updates it directly based on flow settings and configured overrides (such as frequency, price, next charge date, or title).
Configure the Update a subscription node
Add the Update a subscription node when building or editing an Automate flow. In your Recharge merchant portal:
- Click Products and select Automate.
- Create a new flow from a template, or open an existing, unpublished flow.
- Open the Add a node menu.
- Select the Update a subscription node.
- Select the product to update.
- Apply the subscription updates.
- Save your changes.
