Subscription Journey dashboard Early Adopter Program
The Subscription Journey dashboard tracks how your subscriptions progress from order to order and shows how subscriber behavior connects to renewal and cancellation outcomes. Use it to identify where in the lifecycle drop-off occurs, what actions subscribers take before they churn or renew, and which products and delivery frequencies retain the most value over time.
This guide provides an overview of the Subscription Journey dashboard, explains how to interpret each section, and shows you how to use filters to analyze specific subscription segments.

Before you start
- The Subscription Journey dashboard is in Early Adopter status. See Early Adopter Program for more information. Fill out the interest form to request access to this feature.
- The dashboard includes subscription data from March 2025 onward.
How it works
The Subscription Journey dashboard is organized into sections that guide you from a high-level view of your subscription cohort to the specific actions and outcomes for each order.
Hero metrics
The hero metrics provide a snapshot of your selected cohort's size, revenue, and order volume, each broken down by active and churned subscriptions.
- Total Subscriptions displays the total number of subscriptions in the cohort, split between active and churned subscriptions.
- Total Revenue displays the total revenue generated by the cohort, along with the average revenue for active and churned subscriptions.
- Total Orders displays the total number of processed subscription orders, along with the average number of orders for active and churned subscriptions.
Subscription Retention by Order Number
The Subscription Retention by Order Number chart shows how subscriptions progress from one order number to the next.
Each bar represents a transition between order numbers (for example, Order 1 to Order 2 or Order 2 to Order 3) and breaks subscriptions into three outcomes:
- Renewed: The subscription successfully processed the next order number.
- Queued: The subscription is still active but has not yet processed its next order.
- Cancelled: The subscription was cancelled before processing the next order number.
Within each outcome, bars are split into two shades: darker indicates a subscriber took an action before reaching that outcome, and lighter indicates no action was taken. This helps you see whether engagement is connected to renewal or cancellation at each order number.
Subscription Actions by Order Number
The Subscription Actions by Order Number chart shows which actions subscribers perform at each order number.
Available actions include:
- Rescheduled: The subscriber moved their next charge date to a later or earlier date.
- Skipped: The subscriber skipped their next scheduled order.
- Swapped: The subscriber switched to a different product or variant.
- Changed quantity: The subscriber changed the number of units in their order.
- Changed delivery frequency: The subscriber changed how often their order is charged.
This view helps you understand which actions subscribers are taking and at which order number they are taking them.
Product & Frequency Performance
The Product & Frequency Performance table displays every product, variant, and delivery frequency combination included in the selected cohort.
For each combination, the table includes:
- Total subscriptions: Total activated subscriptions for that product, variant, and frequency.
- Cancelled subscriptions: Total subscriptions that cancelled, including active, passive, or expired cancellations.
- Reschedules: Subscriptions with at least one reschedule event.
- Skips: Subscriptions with at least one skip event.
- Swaps: Subscriptions with at least one swap event.
- Average lifetime revenue: Average total revenue per subscription. Earlier cohorts and higher-priced products will generally show higher values.
- Average lifetime orders: Average number of orders per subscription. Earlier cohorts will generally show higher order counts.
- Average lifetime days active: Average days active per subscription, across both active and churned subscriptions.
You can use this table to compare subscription performance across your catalog and identify products or delivery frequencies with stronger retention.
Subscription action tabs
The dashboard includes dedicated tabs with additional detail for each subscriber action.
Cancellations
The Cancellations tab includes metrics and charts showing cancellation volume, type, and reasons by order number.
- Total cancelled: Total inactive churned subscriptions. Reactivated subscriptions are excluded.
- % of cancelled: Percentage of subscriptions that cancelled out of all activated subscriptions.
- Average order at cancellation: Average number of orders processed before cancellation.
- Cancellation type by order number: Active versus passive churn broken down by order number.
- Cancellation reasons by order number: Active churn subscriptions broken down by cancellation reason at each order number.
Reschedules
The Reschedules tab includes hero metrics and charts showing reschedule activity and outcomes by order number.
- Total rescheduled: Subscriptions with at least one reschedule event.
- % rescheduled: Percentage of subscriptions that rescheduled out of all activated subscriptions.
- Average days rescheduled: Average number of days adjusted across all reschedule events.
- Reschedule behavior by order number: Reschedule direction (earlier or later) and duration in weeks at each order number.
Skips
The Skips tab includes hero metrics and charts showing skip activity and outcomes by order number.
- Total skipped: Subscriptions with at least one skip event.
- % skipped: Percentage of subscriptions that skipped out of all activated subscriptions.
- Average skips per subscription: Average number of skips per subscription.
- Skip outcomes by order number: Subscriptions that skipped at each order number, broken down by outcome (renewed or cancelled).
Swaps
The Swaps tab includes hero metrics and charts showing product swap activity and outcomes by order number.
- Total swapped: Subscriptions with at least one swap event.
- % swapped: Percentage of subscriptions that swapped out of all activated subscriptions.
- Average swaps per subscription: Average number of swaps per subscription.
- Swap outcomes by order number: Subscriptions that swapped at each order number, broken down by outcome (renewed or cancelled).
- Most swapped from / to: Most common product variants subscribers swapped from and to.
Using cohort filters
All dashboard data is based on the cohort date range you select. A cohort is the group of subscriptions activated within that date range. After choosing a cohort, you can further refine the dashboard using additional filters.
Available filters include:
- Cohort date range: The subscription activation date range. Selecting a longer range shows more of the subscription lifecycle, while a recent range will show many subscriptions still early in their journey.
- Product: Filters by the product the subscriber originally signed up for.
- Variant: Filters by the product variant the subscriber originally signed up for.
- Frequency: Filters by the subscription's billing frequency.
- Action source: Filters the dashboard to show subscriber actions from a specific source.
Changing a filter updates all metrics, charts, and tables across the dashboard.
Access the dashboard
During the Early Adopter Program, the dashboard is available only after it has been enabled for your store. Once enabled, you can access the report in your Recharge merchant portal:
- Select Analytics in your Recharge merchant portal.
- Select Subscription Journey.
Use cases
| Use case | Description |
|---|---|
| Identify where subscribers churn | Use the Subscription Retention by Order Number chart to identify the order number with the highest subscription cancellation rate, helping you prioritize where to focus retention efforts. |
| Investigate cancellation reasons | Use the Cancellations tab to identify the top reasons subscribers cancel at each order number and target those moments with retention tools like Cancellation Prevention or Rewards. |
| Compare product and frequency performance | Filter the dashboard by product, variant, or frequency to identify which combinations generate stronger retention, higher lifetime value, and better long-term performance. |
Considerations
Consider the following when using this dashboard:
| Limitation | Details |
|---|---|
| Historical data | The dashboard includes subscription data from March 2025 onward. Subscriptions created before March 2025 are not included. |
| Recent cohorts | Cohorts with a short date range will show a higher proportion of Queued subscriptions, since less time has passed since those subscriptions processed subsequent orders. This does not indicate a retention problem. |
