Managing purchase options in Shopify

When you add or remove a purchase option on a Shopify product page, Recharge automatically updates the matching subscription plans in your merchant portal. 

This guide covers how to add and remove purchase options from the Shopify product page and how each action syncs with your Recharge subscription plans.

How it works

Purchase options are Shopify's selling plan groups, the subscription offerings that appear on a product page. Purchase options can include one or more frequencies (e.g., monthly or weekly delivery) and map to one or more subscription plans in Recharge.

When you add or remove a purchase option in Shopify, Recharge listens for that change and automatically keeps its plans in sync. 

Add a purchase option

You can add a purchase option to a product or to a specific variant (if you’re using Variant Level Plans) directly from the Shopify product page. When you do, Recharge creates a matching subscription plan for that product.

1. In Shopify, open the product you want to update.
2. Find the Purchase options section and click Subscriptions.
3. Select the purchase option to add.
4. Save your changes.

After you save, Recharge automatically creates the matching plan and checks if the purchase option you added already belongs to another product in Recharge. If so, Recharge removes it from the new product and creates a duplicate of the plans for this product instead. This means each product gets its own independent plan configuration rather than sharing a single one.

Remove a purchase option

You can remove a purchase option from a product or from a specific variant. What happens in Recharge depends on where you remove it from.

1. In Shopify, open the product you want to update.
2. Find the Purchase options section and click the X next to it.
3. Select Remove purchase options to remove the purchase option.
