Issuing and adjusting credits manually
Recharge makes it easy for you to set up automated customer credit experiences. Occasionally, you may want to manually offer customers store credit to resolve customer issues.
This guide explains how to issue credits manually, or adjust the credit balance for a specific customer.

Issue credits manually
Manually add credits to a customer's account to resolve individual customer issues, or reward specific customers.
You must have the Credits permissions enabled on your Recharge user account to add credits to a customer's account. User with Credits permissions can use the following steps to issue credits manually:
- Select Customers in the merchant portal and click Customers from the dropdown.
- Search for and select the customer.
- In the Credits modal, click Issue Credit.
- Enter the Amount of credits you want to give the customer and choose if these credits will expire.
- Optional - Add an internal note. This note will appear in the credit history in the merchant portal and is not visible to the customer.
- Click Issue to complete the credit adjustment.
After issuing credit, the available credit is displayed as Available Balance until the expiration date if the expiration date is set.
Adjust credit balance
There may be times when you need to adjust a customer’s credit balance. Use the following steps to adjust a customer's credit balance in the merchant portal:
- Select Customers in the merchant portal and click Credits from the dropdown.
- You can also view credits from a specific customer’s profile using the Credits modal and clicking View credit history.
To view credit adjustment history, click a Credit ID or use the ellipsis to select View history.
- You can also view credits from a specific customer’s profile using the Credits modal and clicking View credit history.
- Click Adjust credit balance.
- Select Add or Subtract from the dropdown menu. The ending balance cannot be negative.
- Enter the amount of credit to be added or subtracted.
- Optional - Add an internal note for credit adjustment. This note will appear in the credit history in your merchant portal.
- Select Save.
Update credits expiry
You can update when credits are set to expire from the customer's credit history page:
- Select Customers in the merchant portal and click Credits from the dropdown.
- You can also view credits from a specific customer’s profile using the Credits modal and clicking View credit history.
To view credit adjustment history, click a Credit ID or use the ellipsis to select View history.
- You can also view credits from a specific customer’s profile using the Credits modal and clicking View credit history.
- Click Update credits expiry.
- Select an option and choose the expiration date if setting credits to expire.
- Select Save.
