Managing customer segments
Customer segmentation lets you group customers based on common characteristics such as demographics, history, or behaviors, allowing you to target specific customer cohorts.
This guide covers how to configure and manage customer segments.
- Shopify Checkout Integration
- Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration
Before you start
- Segments are available to Pro or Custom plans merchants.
How it works
A segment is a group of customers that have similar characteristics. Recharge customer segments are similar to customer segments in Shopify or customer lists and segments in Klaviyo.
A segment member is an existing Recharge customer that has been added to a segment. You can add customers to one or several segments. Customers are recognized by their email address, which is associated with their Recharge customer record.
There are a few methods you can use to add customers to a segment:
- Manually add customers to a segment
- Bulk import customers with a CSV file
- Import an external segment
- Automatically add customers to a segment after a specified point in a Subscription Experience strategy
You can use segments when building certain Subscription Experiences to:
- Group-specific customers together based on the incentive or action included in the Subscription Experience
- eg. Add customers to a "Free Gift" segment the first time they receive a free gift after hitting a streak milestone to track which customers have received incentives
- Target specific groups of customers with incentives or actions
- eg. Build a 6% credits experience that only triggers and offers the incentive to customers in your "Big Spenders" segment
View customer segments

- Click Customers and select Segments from the dropdown.
- Click on a specific segment name to view the customers within a segment.

You can then add customers to the segment depending on your preferred method.

- Click the Manage button.

- Open the Klaviyo segment in Recharge.
