How to use Recharge pre-built flows in Klaviyo
You can use Klaviyo flows to automate customer notifications based on specific triggers, ensuring that customers receive notifications specific to where they are in their subscription journey. Recharge offers custom Klaviyo flow templates that use Recharge event metrics and built-in logic, making it easier to target customers at key points in their journey.
This guide outlines the Recharge flows available in Klaviyo.
- Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce
- Recharge Checkout on Shopify
- Shopify Checkout Integration
Before you start
- You must have the latest version of the Klaviyo integration installed to access Recharge flows in Klaviyo. Upgrade to the newest version of the integration today to use these templates.
-
Stores using Win Backs with the new payment method update feature should remove the Klaviyo flow filter that excludes customers with the cancellation reasons "Max Number of Charge Attempts Reached" and "Failed Payment Flow Max Retries" from the Subscriber Win Back template. With the payment method update feature, customers with an invalid payment method can add a credit card directly within the Win Backs landing page and there is no need to exclude customers with these cancellation reasons.
- You must have the Retain package to access the new payment method update feature. See Updating payment methods for additional details, or contact Recharge at earlyadopterprogram@rechargeapps.com to have this feature enabled.
- See Getting started with Recharge pre-built flows in Klaviyo to learn more about the available flows.
Step 1 - Access the Recharge flows in Klaviyo
Recharge pre-built flows are available in Klaviyo’s flow library:
- Login to Klaviyo.
- Select Flows from the left-side navigation menu.
- Click Create flow.
- Select Recharge from the Select one or more integrations drop-down menu in the flow builder.
- Select one of the available flow templates:
- Review the flow description and trigger, and add a flow name and tags (if applicable).
- Click Create Flow to update the flow.
Step 2 - Update the email content
Update the email content to match your brand image and tone:
- Click on each Message node to open the email details.
- Select Edit in the Template box.
- Update the messaging to reflect your brand. Each template has detailed instructions to help you update the generic placeholder text and images, plus any Call To Action buttons and Quick Action links. Make sure to follow the instructions listed to make any necessary edits.
- Recharge recommends removing the instruction sections from your messages. However, these instructions are dynamically hidden when the message triggers, and they are not displayed to customers.
- Click Save & continue.
Step 3 - Preview and test the email
Use Klaviyo’s built-in email preview tool to preview the template with real data from your account.
Before enabling the flow in Step 4, you can set the message to “manual” status to test the message. When a flow’s message status is set to manual, the flow triggers, but a notification is not immediately sent. Instead, you manually send the notification through the Needs Review list in Klaviyo. This ensures that not all customers who meet the trigger criteria receive the message until you’re ready to go live. See Klaviyo’s guide How to manually send flow messages to recipients for more information.
You must trigger the flow as a test customer to test the user experience. The trigger steps differ depending on the notification. See the instructions listed below to trigger the applicable message:
Step 4 - Enable the flow
Review Klaviyo’s instructions on enabling a flow when you are ready for customers to receive your notifications.
After enabling the flow, customers who meet the trigger criteria automatically receive the flow message.
