Can I merge customer accounts in Shopify?
What happens when you merge customer accounts in Shopify will depend on what platform your store is using:
Recharge Checkout Integration
Merging customer accounts in Shopify while on the Recharge Checkout Integration platform will impact any active subscriptions the customer has in Recharge.
Customers in Recharge are associated with a subscription contract, tied to their customer account in Shopify. If that account is merged into another, the customer's profile and subscriptions will be permanently deleted in Recharge.
If you need to merge customer accounts, we recommend verifying the customer account being used in Recharge and keep that profile in Shopify. You may also choose to edit the email address of the profile instead of processing a merge.
Shopify Checkout Integration
Merging customer accounts in Shopify while on the Shopify Checkout Integration platform will not impact any active subscriptions. This is because the subscriptions are not tied to a payment method associated with a Recharge payment processor.
Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration
Merging customer accounts in Shopify while on the Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration platform will depend on what type of subscriber the customer is. Stores that are on the Migrated Shopify Checkout Integration have the following types of subscribers:
- Existing, active subscribers that purchased subscriptions prior to your store's conversion or migration.
- New subscribers that purchased a subscription after your store's conversion or migration (via the Shopify Checkout).
See Understanding customer management on the Shopify Checkout Integration and Migration Shopify Checkout Integration for more information on customer management.
Existing subscribers will be impacted by merging customer accounts. See the section Recharge Checkout Integration for more information on the expected behavior.
New subscribers will not be impacted by merging customer accounts. See the section Shopify Checkout Integration for more information on the expected behavior.
