Understanding the Incentive node when building Subscription Experiences
The Incentive node lets you reward customers with one-time free gifts or product discounts.

How it works
The Incentive node is an action node that adds a free gift or discount of your choosing to the customer’s next upcoming order automatically.
This node works with the Rewards subscription experiences.
Incentive types
Choose between the following incentive types:

One-time product | Automatically add a free gift to a customer's next upcoming order |
You select the products a customer receives as a free gift - customers cannot choose or claim a specific gift. These products are added as a one-time product incentive automatically to the customer's upcoming order. |
Order discount | Automatically apply a one-time percentage discount to the customer's next order. | Enter a specific percentage discount amount that applies to subscription products on the customer's next order. |

For example, the Encourage routine orders subscription experience uses conditional branch nodes node to provide different rewards depending on the customer's milestone (ie. when the customer has three consecutive orders they receive $5.00 credit, and when they have six consecutive orders they receive a free gift).

Sample product |
Add a sample product when a customer purchases a specific product. For example, use the A/B test a free gift with next purchase template to add a sample product to half of your customer's orders if they've ordered a specific product, and watch your analytics to see if that increases the Average Order Value for those customers. To use this method you must update the trigger node conditions and use the Variant Line item condition to target customers subscribed to a specific product. |
A/B test products |
A/B test different incentives to see which one performs better. Use the A/B test a free gift with next purchase template to offer two different free products, two different discount amounts, or one of each to see which type of reward performs better when trying to retain recurring customers. |
