Considerations
Consider the following when using the Unity customer portal:
Consideration |
Notes |
| Discounts | Enable the API sales channel when configuring discount codes to ensure they can be applied through the Unity customer portal. |
| Advanced customizations |
Advanced customizations are not supported, including:
At this time, Unity customizations are limited to fonts, colors, and background settings within the Shopify Theme Editor. Custom widgets are not supported. |
| Customer portal location | You must use the Embedded in platform storefront customer portal location setting. See Understanding the customer portal for more information. |
| Gift subscriptions | Gift subscriptions are only supported when using the Site Builder redemption experience. |
| Pause subscriptions | The pause subscriptions feature is not supported. |
| Internationalization (Localization) |
Internationalization is now supported with default translations available in 13 languages. These built-in translations include:
|
| Cancellation reasons and retention strategies |
Only Cancellation Prevention cancellation surveys are supported. The legacy cancellation reasons and retention strategies are not supported. Stores using the legacy feature will only have a basic cancellation experience until they migrate to Cancellation Prevention. |
| Dynamic pricing | Product price changes due to dynamic pricing are not reflected in the customer portal's delivery schedule or upcoming orders sections. |
| Access via Magic Links and staff access |
Customers must be logged in to their Shopify customer account to access the Unity customer portal. Magic Links don’t bypass this requirement, and merchants or support agents can’t use these links to view a customer’s portal. To review or test the Unity experience, create and log in with a Shopify test customer account. As per Shopify’s security and privacy terms, merchants and support agents can’t log in as a real customer. |
| Payment methods section |
Only customers with an active subscription contract can see the Payment methods section on their profile page. For SCI(m) stores, this means Recharge-billed customers who don’t have a contract cannot add or edit their payment methods from the profile. These customers can only update their payment method in the Unity customer portal if a charge error occurs. When that happens, Recharge routes them to a hosted payment method landing page to update their information. If there’s no charge error, the customer must go through the checkout process to add a new payment method. |
| Rewards | The Unity customer portal theme is not compatible with the punch card banner feature. |
| Subscription cancellation behavior | Unity does not support enforcing a minimum number of charges before cancellation. If a store has a setting configured to allow cancellation only after a specific number of charges, customers may still be able to cancel their subscriptions at any time when using Unity. |
