How to update free gifts and credits messaging in the customer portal

Free gifts and credits are popular incentives for many Rewards experiences. Customers interact with these incentives in many places, including the customer portal. You can update this messaging to match your brand, or to be more informative for your customers.
This guide explains updating customer portal messaging for free gifts and store credit.

Before you start
Rewards templates are available to stores with the Retain package enabled.
Free gifts
Step 1 - Access the free gift copy
Update free gift-related copy in the Recharge merchant portal.
- Click Loyalty and select Rewards from the merchant portal.
- Choose the Free gifts in the customer portal option under Optional: Connect and engage with your customers.
Step 2 - Update the free gift copy
- Customize each message field to update the free gift copy customers see in the customer portal:
- Add this gift: The call-to-action that adds the gift to the customer’s order
- Surprise gift status text: Provide clarity to customers that the product added to their upcoming order is free of charge. By default, this text displays in the customer portal as “FREE” next to the quantity of the free gift.
- Surprise gift title: The headline alerting the customer about their free gift
- Surprise gift description: A brief explanation of why they’re getting the free item
- Surprise gift body: Additional details about the gift or timing
- Surprise gift success title: The confirmation message shown after the customer claims the free gift
- Click Save to save your changes.
- Click Update to confirm your changes.
Credits
Step 1 - Access the Credits copy
Update Credits-related copy in the Recharge merchant portal:
- Click Loyalty and select Rewards from the merchant portal.
- Choose the Credits in the customer portal option under Optional: Connect and engage with your customers.
Step 2 - Update the Credits copy
- Customize each message field to update the credit copy customers see in the customer portal:
- Credits balance: The customer's current available credit amount
- Credits information text: Informs customers about the credits applied to their order
- Charged to Credits: The amount of the order the customer pays with credits
- Refunded to Credits: The amount of refunded credits issued
- Credits Name: The term used for store credit across your brand
- Credits Name Past: The term used for previously used or expired credits
- Credits Auto Apply: The term used to inform customers that credits auto apply to their next order
- View Credits: Lets the customer view their credit balance or history
- Credits Modal Description: Explains how customers earn and use credits
- Click Save to save your changes.
- Click Update to confirm your changes.
