Before you start
- This feature is available through Rewards. Access to Rewards depends on your plan. Check the Loyalty tab in your merchant portal to confirm whether this feature is available in your store.
How it works
Multi-currency Credits automatically converts a customer’s credit balance to match the currency of their recurring charge if their presentment currency differs from your store’s default currency.
Recharge issues all credits in your store’s default currency, not the currency customers shop in (the customer’s presentment currency). For example, if your store uses USD and a customer shopping in GBP receives a $50 credit, they’ll receive $50 USD.
Recharge does not convert the currency at the time of credit issuance. Instead, Recharge converts the credit using the current exchange rate when the customer redeems their credits at the time of charge processing. This ensures Recharge applies the credit in the customer’s presentment currency.
To avoid confusion, the Customer Portal shows the credit balance in the currency the customer shops in and the original amount in your store’s default currency (e.g., USD).
Recharge also displays the credit balance in the customer’s presentment currency if they enter a Cancellation Prevention or Win Backs flow.
Step 1 - Review your Shopify Markets configuration
Available currencies depend on what markets you configure in Shopify. The number of markets you can configure depends on your Shopify plan.
Review your existing markets or create new markets in your Shopify admin.
Step 2 - Review your Credits settings in Recharge
If this is your first time using Multi-currency Credits, you must enable the feature in your Credits settings:
- Click Settings in your merchant portal and select Credits.
- Under Multi-currency, toggle the option convert credits to the customer's currency on.
You can also review your store currency and the available presentment currencies on this page.
