Recharge uses industry-standard encryption techniques and stores all personally identifying information in a secure manner. In addition, Recharge stores all credit card information with a third-party PCI compliant credit card vault.

Is Recharge PCI compliant?⌄

Yes, Recharge is PCI compliant and receives an Attestation of Compliance annually using the SAQ-A as Recharge does not directly store, process or transmit credit card data. At setup, Recharge offers the choice of several different Level 1 PCI compliance credit card processors. Refer to your payment processor and ecommerce setup regarding which vendor your store is using. For more information regarding PCI compliance levels, visit PCI Security Standards.

Does Recharge use encryption for personal information?⌄

Yes, personal information is securely transmitted and stored. Recharge uses data encryption (including TLS and AES256) at rest and in transit. All checkout processes and customer actions (such as modifying subscriptions) occur over an industry-standard SSL connection. For further information, visit the Recharge Trust Center.

Does Recharge store credit card information?⌄

Recharge does not store credit cards. Recharge uses a secure third-party credit card vaulting service that is fully PCI-compliant. For further information, visit the Recharge Trust Center and Privacy Policy.

Can I use Recharge if I sell products that contain CBD?⌄
Note on 2026 Farm Bill (H.R. 5371) Compliance: Starting November 12, 2026, federal law will strictly limit hemp-derived products to 0.4 mg of total THC per container and prohibit synthetic cannabinoids. Merchants are responsible for ensuring their product catalogs comply with these federal regulations to maintain service. Recharge cannot provide legal advice; we strongly encourage you to consult with your own legal counsel to determine how these changes impact your specific business.

Recharge does not prohibit merchants from selling specific products, such as products containing cannabidiol (CBD).

Each payment processor maintains its own rules and regulations as to which businesses it can support and what is categorized as high-risk. For example, Stripe has strict guidelines around the sale of cannabis and related businesses. Recharge recommends reaching out directly to your payment processor of interest to confirm if your business is supported.

Note: While Recharge does not ban merchants from selling specific products, due to US laws and legislation, RechargeSMS cannot support stores selling products containing CBD.

Twilio also restricts the sale of products containing cannabidiol or hemp. This restriction also prohibits merchants who reference these products from using SMS. See the following Twilio resources for additional information:
