Moving subscriptions to a different address
If an existing customer purchases an additional subscription at checkout, it is added to their existing Address ID using the Address Reuse feature. If a customer has subscriptions in separate Address IDs, use the Move address function to combine subscription orders into a single Address ID.
This guide provides an overview of combining subscription orders manually and in bulk.
Before you start
- By default, when a customer has multiple subscriptions under the same Address ID, subscriptions with the same renewal date are treated as one order and shipped together.
- Prepaid subscriptions are always processed and shipped separately and cannot be combined with other subscription orders, regardless of whether their renewal date matches.
- If you have a customer with subscriptions in separate Address IDs, you can use this guide to combine orders to ensure subscriptions with the same renewal date process and ship together.
Move subscriptions
Follow the steps below to manually move subscriptions to a new address. Note that moving a subscription to a different address causes it to sync with the subscription frequency of the new address and may update the next order date.
- Click Customers in the merchant portal and select Customers from the dropdown.
- Search for and select the customer.
- Hover over the subscription product and click the three vertical dots menu.
- Select Move address.
- Select the new address and click Update to confirm.
- If needed, update the next order date of the moved subscription.
For multi-currency users, subscriptions cannot be moved from one customer address to another if the presentment currencies differ. To change currencies, cancel the existing subscription and add a new subscription.

Merge addresses
The address merge feature lets you consolidate subscriptions with multiple addresses into a single target address. Using this feature, you can set the next charge date for all subscriptions to reduce shipments and optionally delete duplicate addresses.
The duplicate address report provides a field, Deep link to the address, with a direct link to the customer flagged with similar addresses. This allows you to access the address merge feature seamlessly.
To merge addresses:
- Click Customers in the merchant portal and select Customers from the dropdown.
- Select the specific customer to apply changes to.
- Select Merge addresses.
- Click Select address under Select the destination address to choose where you want merged subscriptions to live going forward.
- Click Select addresses under Select address you'd like to merge to choose which subscriptions to move to the destination address.
- Review the optional clean-up steps and enable if necessary.
- Select Merge addresses.
Future skipped charges
Recharge ensures that, in most cases, a customer's skipped order is retained |even i the subscription is later updated. This prevents unintentional removal of skipped charges when you or your customers make changes.
Future skips are only removed if:
- The subscription’s next charge date has been changed
- The subscription’s order frequency is updated
- The subscription has been moved to a different address
When a subscription is removed from a skipped order, Recharge emits a subscription/removed_from_skipped_charge The webhook allows you to take action if needed (for example, re-skipping the order).
For tracking purposes, Recharge adds a skip removed event to the customer’s timeline with the original skip date.
You can view the Actions Report in the Analytics Suite to review skip metrics for your store.
