Bulk updating subscriptions
The subscription bulk update feature uses filters to quickly find subscriptions, preview changes, and apply updates, all without a CSV file.

Before you start
- Store owners have default account permissions to use bulk management tools. Store owners can grant permissions to other staff members from the accounts page.
- Recharge recommends disabling any third-party notifications you don’t want triggered during bulk updates. This prevents customers from receiving unwanted emails during the update.
How it works
Bulk update subscriptions with filters lets you make changes in a few guided steps, without uploading a CSV file.
- Search and filter subscriptions: Use filters such as variant ID, customer tags, subscription creation date, price, or shipping frequency to find the subscriptions you want to update.
- Choose an update action: Select the action you want to apply to your filtered subscriptions, such as rescheduling the next charge date, cancelling, reactivating, or deleting subscriptions.
- Preview the update: Review the changes in a CSV file before they're applied. You can review the preview in the merchant portal or download the CSV file and access it from an email link.
- Process the update: Once you've confirmed the preview appears as intended, you can process the bulk update. Recharge applies the changes to all matching subscriptions and displays the results in the Bulk Updates section of the merchant portal.
How to bulk update subscriptions with filters
Step 1 - Start a bulk update
Use the Bulk Updates tool to begin the update:
- In the merchant portal click Tools & apps and select Bulk updates.
- Click Start a subscription bulk update.
Step 2 - Search and filter subscriptions
Use filters to find the subscriptions you want to update. You can use multiple filters to narrow search results and avoid unintended updates:
- Use the Find all subscriptions where... drop-down to add one or more filters to find subscriptions. This includes filters such as variant ID, customer tag, price, or shipping frequency.
- Review the list of matching subscriptions.
- Confirm that the results only include the subscriptions you want to update.
Step 3 - Select an update action
Choose what actions to apply to the filtered subscriptions:
- Click Select action to select one of the following actions:
- Reschedule next charge date
- Swap product
- Cancel subscriptions
- Reactivate subscriptions
- Delete subscriptions
- Update price
- Enter any required details for the selected action, such as a cancellation reason or new charge date.
Step 4 - Preview and process the update
Review a preview of the affected subscriptions before applying the changes:
- Review the list of filtered subscriptions under Preview your update.
- Click Next: finalize your update to generate a preview CSV of the changes.
- Choose how you want to process the update:
- Select Start the update as soon as the preview is ready to automatically process it once the preview is ready.
- Clear this checkbox to review the preview first. Recharge emails you a link to download the preview CSV when it’s ready.
- Click Confirm: prepare update.
If you chose to review first, download and review the preview CSV, then return to Bulk updates under Tools & apps to process the update. Otherwise, check the Bulk updates page to confirm the status of the update.
