Migrate current customers from one store to another store
Migrating to a new ecommerce store requires moving your subscription data and, in some cases, your customers' payment methods. The migration process differs depending on your Recharge platform.
This guide explains how to migrate subscriptions to a new store and outlines the platform-specific requirements.
Before you start
Warning: Recharge doesn't recommend switching Recharge stores unless necessary. Moving to a new store changes product, variant, customer, and subscription IDs. Historical analytics and reporting don't transfer to the new store.
Recharge Support doesn't perform migrations or prepare migration files. See the Recharge Scope of Support for more information.
Shopify Checkout Integration
Shopify manages payment methods for Shopify Checkout Integration stores.
Recharge can't migrate customer payment information between Shopify stores. If you're moving to a new Shopify store and want to preserve customers' saved payment methods, you must complete a PAN migration through Shopify.
Note: Shopify Plus is required for PAN migrations. Contact Shopify Support if you have questions about eligibility.
A PAN migration transfers customer payment methods into Shopify Payments only. It doesn't migrate Recharge subscriptions.
After completing the PAN migration, migrate your subscription data by:
- Exporting your subscriptions from your existing Recharge store.
- Updating product and variant IDs to match the destination store.
- Updating the Shopify payment method IDs created during the PAN migration.
- Importing the updated subscription data into the destination Recharge store.

Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce
Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce stores can migrate subscriptions to another store.
To migrate:
- Export your existing subscription data.
- Copy the data into the Recharge migration template.
- Import the completed migration template into the destination store.
See Migrating to Recharge for detailed migration instructions.
Expected outcome
After completing the migration:
- Customer payment methods (Shopify only) are available in the destination store if a PAN migration was completed.
- Subscription data is imported into the destination Recharge store.
- Customers can continue managing and renewing their subscriptions from the new store.
Historical analytics, reporting, and Recharge-specific record IDs from the original store don't transfer to the destination store.
Considerations
Consider the following:
Consideration |
Notes |
| Historical data | Historical analytics, reporting, and Recharge IDs don't transfer when migrating to a new Recharge store. |
| Shopify payment methods | Recharge can't migrate payment methods between Shopify stores. Shopify manages PAN migrations directly. |
| Migration support | Recharge Support doesn't perform migrations or prepare migration files. Recharge recommends reviewing the migration documentation before beginning the process. |
| Product and variant IDs | Product and variant IDs must match the destination store before importing subscriptions. Otherwise, migrated subscriptions won't import correctly. |
