Offering a free gift with the first subscription order is a great way to build loyalty and long-term value rewarding first-time subscribers.

This guide explains how to include a free gift with the first subscription order, and then change to the regular product without the free gift.

Before you start

• In order to add a free gift or discount on an order after the initial checkout, see Rewards.
• In order to control churn, you can Allow customer to cancel after set number of charges by adjusting your store's cancellation settings.
• The default when you create a workflow is that it is toggled off.  Please toggle on the workflow when you’re ready to execute.

Step 1 - Create the product

Create a product on your ecommerce platform that includes the original product and the gift together

Step 2 - Add a Product Subscription Plan

In the merchant portal, assign the appropriate Product Subscription Plans to the product with the free gift.

Step 3 - Configure the workflow

Follow the One-off SKU swap workflow template, setting the product with the free gift as the initial product variant and the original product as the product variant to swap to. Once enabled, the workflow ensures that customers purchasing the gift product are swapped to the regular product after the initial checkout.
