How to create a preset bundle
Preset bundles allow customers to purchase a pre-configured bundle of products at a set price. Preset bundles can be offered as a one-time purchase or as a subscription product.

Before you start
Step 1 - Configure your bundle in Recharge
Create the parent bundle product in Recharge. This is the product that customers check out to receive your curated collection.
While you can import a preconfigured parent bundle product from Shopify, Recharge recommends creating it directly in Recharge to avoid issues.
- Click Products in the merchant portal and select Bundles from the dropdown.
- Click Add a bundle.
- Choose the Preset template and select Get started.
- Name the bundle.
- Optional - Add a product image to appear on product listing pages and search results.
- Optional - If you are importing a pre-configured parent bundle product from Shopify, click Select your product here and choose the product to import it. Using this method, you cannot edit the price or product variants in Recharge, instead, you must edit it directly in Shopify. Recharge recommends creating the parent bundle product directly in Recharge.
- Select Save and continue.
Step 2 - Set the price and contents
In this step, you decide whether your bundle has a single fixed configuration or multiple preset options. This determines how many versions of the bundle customers can choose from.
Choose one of the following:
- There's only one version of my bundle: All customers receive the same preset bundle with identical products and pricing
- My bundle has multiple options: Customers can choose from variants of the same bundle (e.g., small, medium, large). Each version can include different products and pricing
If you choose the one version option
- Set the bundle price.
- Determine the number of products in the bundle.
- Click Select products to choose which products to include in the bundle.
- Set the quantity for each product and click Apply when ready.
- Click Save and continue.
If you choose the multiple versions option
- Click Add bundle options.
- Enter an option name (for example, Size or Box type).
- Enter each option value (for example, Small, Medium, Large).
- Click Apply.
- Under Price and contents, click the pencil icon next to an option to configure it.
- Set the bundle price for that option.
- Set the quantity for each product.
- Click Select products, then select the products for that option.
- Set the quantity for each product.
- Click Apply to save the option.
- Repeat for each option.
- Click Save and continue.
Step 3 - Set the subscription options
Decide how customers can buy the bundle.
-
In the Subscription options section, choose how the bundle is sold. This determines whether customers can make a one-time purchase, subscribe, or both:
- Select One-time purchase only if customers should only buy the bundle once
- Select One-time and subscription if you want to offer both options
-
Select Subscription only if the bundle is exclusively recurring
Tip: Choose Subscription only if your goal is recurring revenue. Choose One-time purchase only for fixed kits or limited offers.
- If you select a subscription option, click Add a frequency option to create a delivery cadence. This controls how often customers are charged and receive the bundle.
-
In the Frequencies panel, click Add a frequency option to configure the subscription behavior:
- Set the delivery interval under Ship product and charge customer every (for example, every 30 days or every 1 month)
- (Optional) Enable Offer a discount on this frequency if you want to incentivize subscriptions
-
Optional - Choose how long the subscription runs under Does this subscription expire automatically?
- Select No, this subscription keeps running until the customer cancels it for ongoing subscriptions
-
Select Yes, this subscription expires after a set number of orders for prepaid or fixed-length subscriptions
Tip: Use fixed-length subscriptions for gift boxes or limited campaigns.
-
Optional - Under Where is this frequency available?, select where customers can access this subscription option:
- When people buy from my store (storefront)
- When people buy through my customer portal
- When I edit orders here in the merchant portal
-
Via the API
Tip: Keep all options selected unless you have a specific reason to limit availability.
- Click Apply to save the frequency.
- Repeat steps 3–7 if you want to offer multiple frequency options (for example, monthly and quarterly).
- Click Save and continue to move to the next step.
Step 4 - Activate the bundle
Finalize your configuration before publishing.
- Review included products, quantities, and pricing.
- Confirm purchase options are correct.
- Click Activate bundle to make it live on your store.
Recharge will add bundle contents to Shopify orders only if the preset bundle is published. Recharge will not include the bundle contents in Shopify orders if you unpublish the preset bundle but keep the bundle content products active in Shopify. Customers can still purchase the products separately if the bundle is unpublished.
Optional - Update the Shopify product details
Preset bundles use the standard Shopify product template, which you can customize using the Shopify theme editor.
It is important to highlight the contents of preset bundles. Once a bundle is added to the cart, the individual items within the preset bundle will not be displayed on the cart or checkout page. To help increase conversion, Recharge recommends:
- Building a custom product page for preset bundles or
- Adding additional content to the product description so customers know what products are included in the bundle
Expected behavior
After configuring and publishing the preset bundle, customers can purchase it directly on your storefront.
Although the Shopify product page shows one product, the parent bundle product, customers receive all of the products attached to the parent bundle product with each order.
Inventory handling
The following table outlines how Recharge processes orders based on the available inventory settings.
Inventory setting enabled |
Behavior |
|---|---|
| Create order always | Recharge always processes the order successfully, regardless of product inventory |
| Create order only if inventory is available (and reduce inventory), and the products are set to continue selling when out of stock in Shopify | Recharge always processes the order successfully, regardless of product inventory |
| Create order only if inventory is available (and reduce inventory), and the products are set to not continue selling when out of stock in Shopify |
Recharge checks the parent product inventory, not the bundle contents.
