How to configure default selections for Bundles
Default selections are products added to a bundle if the bundle contents are empty when the charge processes. Configuring default selections ensures all bundle customers receive products in their bundle even if they don't select products to bundle before their charge date.

Before you start
- Products used as default selections for bundles must be linked to a Product Subscription Plan. If the product is only intended as a one-time purchase, you must enable the one-time plan in Recharge. Otherwise, the product will not appear as an option when selecting a default selection.
Step 1 - Build your bundle

Option 1- Configure your default selections during bundle creation
Default selections can now be configured as part of the bundle creation flow. Recharge recommends setting this up during creation do ensure customers always receive products in their bundle from the start.
- During bundle creation, navigate to the Optional: Default selection step.
- Under What happens if a customer doesn't add any contents to their bundle?, select Recommend: Send a default selection.
- Click the edit icon next to Default Title under Select products for default selection.
- Add default product selections.
- Click Apply to confirm the selection.
- Click Save and continue.
Option 2 - Configure your default selections after bundle creation
You can also set up or update default selections at any time from the bundle's review page after the bundle has been created.
Recharge recommends configuring default selections for all customizable bundles to prevent customers from receiving empty bundles. Bundle contents can be empty for the following reasons:
- The customer purchases a bundle through the customer portal instead of checkout
- The customer swaps to a bundle through the customer portal and fails to make bundle contents
Configure the default selection after creating your bundle:
- In the merchant portal select Products and click Bundles.
- Click on the bundle you wish to edit.
- On the Bundles summary page, locate Contents and click Set up default selection.
- Select Recommend: Send a default selection.
- Click the pencil icon under Select products for your default selection.
- Adjust the quantities for the products you want to use as default selections.
- Click Apply to confirm the selection.
- Click Save and continue.
Expected outcome
After configuring default selections, customers receive a bundle product even if they don't make selections before their charge date. This ensures customers receive products without delay, while also preventing any loss of sales.
