How to bulk swap bundle selections for specific subscriptions

Recharge's Import Tool simplifies changing the products in a customer's bundle order, allowing you to efficiently update selections for specific subscriptions. 

This guide explains how to use Recharge's Import Tool to update bundle selections for specific subscriptions.

Before you start

• Bulk swap is only applicable to customizable bundles.
• Contact the Recharge Support Team to enable this feature.
• The Import Tool lets you update bundle selections for specific subscriptions. You can use the Bulk Swap Tool in the merchant portal to update the bundle selections for all subscriptions.

Step 1 - Create the CSV file with the necessary information

The Import Tool uses a CSV file containing subscription, bundle, and product information to perform the bulk update.

Step 1 - Download existing bundles information

Use the Bundles selection - filtered by contents export to access the information you need to perform the update. This export includes all current selections for each bundles subscription:

1. In the merchant portal, select Tools & apps and click Exports.
2. Click Create export.
3. Select Bundles selection - filtered by contents from the export type drop-down menu.
4. Click Add product or variants under Filter by products or variants option to export data related to a specific product.
5. Choose Bundle Variant ID from the Additional columns option. 
6. Select Export data.

Step 2 - Create the CSV with the updated information

Use the information found in the Bundles selection - filtered by contents export to create the CSV file to bulk swap bundle selections:

1. Download the CSV template, or create your own CSV with the following headers:
   • subscription_id: The unique identifier for a Recharge subscription
   • bundle_variant_id: The identifier for a specific variant within a bundle
   • source_external_variant_id: The original variant ID for the product you are swapping from
   • target_external_variant_id: The new variant ID for the product you are swapping to
2. Enter the relevant subscription, bundle, and product information into the spreadsheet. 

Step 2 - Perform the bulk update

After preparing the CSV file, you must import the file into Recharge using the Import tool:

1. In the merchant portal, click Tools & Apps and select Bulk updates.
2. Click Import a CSV update.
3. Click on Select your update type, choose Swap bundles selections.
4. Upload the prepared CSV file and click Next: preview update.
5. Confirm the details of your update and select Confirm: prepare update.
6. On the Bulk update page click Process update and select Update bundles.

Check the Processing status on the Bulk updates page to confirm that the bulk update is complete.

Step 3 - Verify the results

Once the process is complete:

• Confirm that the tool removed the previous selections.

• Verify that each subscription now includes the replacement variant (target_external_variant_id).
